Underworld vs The Misterons - Athens

Πρόκειται για το πρώτο μέρος ενός νέου compilation που κυκλοφόρησαν οι Underworld τον Νοέμβριο, το οποίο ονομάστηκε ''Athens'' από το όνομα ενός διάσημου πίνακα ζωγραφικής του Hyde, ο οποίος θα κοσμεί το εξώφυλλο.

Όσοι περιμένουν ένα tech house / techno compilation θα εκπλαγούν, καθώς οι Underworld κάνουν στροφή και εξερευνούν ένα διαφορετικό μουσικό μοτίβο από αυτό που μας έχουν συνηθίσει.

Στο ''Athens'' υπάρχει διάχυτη η jazzy & improvisation αίσθηση. Η διάθεση τους για την παρουσία αυθεντικών οργάνων και συμμετοχή μουσικών είναι ξεκάθαρη. Μάλιστα σπεύδουν να δηλώσουν ότι η στροφή αυτή δεν σημαίνει ότι έπαψαν να αγαπούν την ηλεκτρονική μουσική που φτιάχνεται με computer, αλλά ήρθε η ώρα να κάνουν κάτι διαφορετικό.

Το αποτέλεσμα είναι πολυσυλλεκτικό, από groove tracks, σε psychedelic blues και Jazzy techno vibes. Osunlande, Moodyman, Laurent Garnier συμμετέχουν ανάμεσα σε άλλους κορυφαίους καλλιτέχνες ενώ υπάρχει ακόμη και μια ζωντανή ηχογράφηση των θρύλων της μουσικής Brian Eno & Karl Hyde από το Sydney`s Opera House!!!

U.K. electronic gods Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, aka Underworld, have taken note. Οn November, they released ''Athens'', the first in a two part compilation series that will take the duo to new, exciting places.

''The overall mood is jazz and improvisation'', they digressed to Resident Advisor (RA). ''There is very little playing in a lot of people’s records in the dance and DJ world these days, but one thing Underworld have always liked is musicianship. It doesn’t stop us loving machine music and house music and everything that goes with it, but the idea with this album was to highlight records we liked that we thought had great live playing on them''.

''Athens'' name comes from a piece of Hyde’s artwork, which will also serve as sleeve art. Though, RA insists the title is a throwback to Underworld vs The Misterons, which as they write, ''suggests that regular instrumentalist Darren Price and Junior Boys Own co-founder Steven Hall had a hand in the project''.
