UEFA Euro 2012™ Qualifiers: Δύσκολη νίκη η Ελλάδα, 2-1 το Ισραήλ

Ο στόχος επετεύχθη, έστω και δύσκολα, με άγχος. Η Ελλάδα νίκησε 2-1 το Ισραήλ την Τρίτη στο ''Στάδιο Γεώργιος Καραϊσκάκης'', έκανε το δύο στα δύο στα συνεχόμενα εντός έδρας παιχνίδια που είχε στο πρόγραμμα και πέρασε στην κορυφή του 6ου προκριματικού ομίλου του UEFA Euro2012.

Πρωταγωνιστής της νίκης ο Δημήτρης Σαλπιγγίδης, που σκόραρε στο 22'  και κέρδισε το πέναλτι, το οποίο αξιοποίησε ο Καραγκούνης στο 63'. Το Ισραήλ αποδείχθηκε ''σκληρό καρύδι'', απείλησε την Ελλάδα, αλλά τελικά γνώρισε τη δεύτερη σερί ήττα του και έμεινε 4 βαθμούς πίσω από την Εθνική μας.

Τέσσερις αλλαγές, οι δύο υποχρεωτικές, είχε ο Fernando Santos στην 11άδα της Εθνικής σε σχέση με τον αγώνα με την Λετονία. Τις θέσεις του τραυματία Τζιόλη και του τιμωρημένου Τοροσίδη πήραν οι Καφές και Βύντρα αντίστοιχα, ενώ ο Σπυρόπουλος κάλυψε το αριστερό άκρο της άμυνας (αντί του Τζαβέλλα) και ο Σαλπιγγίδης ήταν στην κορυφή της επίθεσης, στη θέση του Μήτρογλου. Το 4-3-3 παρέμεινε, με τον Κατσουράνη σε ρόλο επιτελικού μέσου, ενώ το Ισραήλ παρατάχθηκε με 4-4-2.

Το πρώτο ημίχρονο ήταν ισορροπημένο και η εικόνα δεν είχε καμία σχέση με τον αγώνα απέναντι στη Λετονία, όπου η Εθνική ήταν κυρίαρχη. Οι Ισραηλινοί έδειξαν επιθετικές διαθέσεις εξ’ αρχής και απείλησαν πρώτοι στο 7' με τον Refaelov. Η ελληνική άμυνα έδειχνε σημάδια αστάθειας, ενώ στην επίθεση, δεν υπήρχαν χώροι ούτε καλή κυκλοφορία.

Ο τραυματισμός του Νίνη στο 15' έφερε την είσοδο του Φετφατζίδη, ο κόσμος αποθέωσε τον μέσο του Ολυμπιακού Σ.Φ.Π., ο ενθουσιασμός εμφανίστηκε αλλά μετά από 2-3 ενέργειες, ο ''Φέτφα'' δεν πήρε μπάλα, καθώς η Εθνική έριξε το βάρος είτε από αριστερά, είτε σε κάθετες πάσες προς τον Σαλπιγγίδη. Ωστόσο, στο δεύτερο μέρος ο νεαρός ήταν εντυπωσιακός και φυσικά αποθεώθηκε.

Σε μία από αυτές, στο 22' ήρθε το 1-0 από τον ''Σάλπι''. Η Ελλάδα είχε δύο καλά σουτ (26' Καραγκούνης, 35' Σαμαράς) αλλά και οι φιλοξενούμενοι, με τον Shechter να προβληματίζει, απείλησαν με τους Natcho (25') και Refaelov (40'), ενώ ζήτησαν δύο πέναλτι σε χέρι του Παπασταθόπουλου (24') και μαρκάρισμα του Κατσουράνη στον Shechter (45'+1).

Στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο η εικόνα του αγώνα άλλαξε. Το Ισραήλ μπήκε σαφώς καλύτερα, κράτησε την μπάλα στην κατοχή του και είχε πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο. Ωστόσο με εξαίρεση τη φάση του Refaelov στο 51' δεν απείλησε. Η Εθνική είχε τις καλές στιγμές με Φετφατζίδη στο 55' και Σαμαρά στο 56', όμως στάθηκε άτυχη και ισοφαρίστηκε με το αυτογκόλ του Σπυρόπουλου στο 59'.

Όμως η αντίδραση ήρθε άμεσα, με το εύστοχο πέναλτι του Καραγκούνη στο 63' και το 2-1 ήταν γεγονός. Ο Fernandez αντέδρασε από τον πάγκο, οι Ισραηλινοί είχαν δοκάρι με τον Vermouth στο 65', η Ελλάδα είχε δώσει χώρο και προσπάθησε να απειλήσει στις αντεπιθέσεις. Έχασε δύο μεγάλες ευκαιρίες με τους Βύντρα (76') και το... αυτοδοκάρι του Gershon στο 77', άντεξε στην πίεση του Ισραήλ στο τέλος, με τον Santos να κάνει τις αλλαγές για να φρεσκάρει την ομάδα και τελικά η πολύτιμη νίκη παρέμεινε.

Hellas replaced Croatia at the top of UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group F after a hard-earned 2-1 victory against Israel in Stadium Georgios Karaiskakis, Piraeus.

Dimitris Salpingidis put Fernando Santos's team men ahead in the 22nd minute with a neat lofted finish but Israel levelled 14 minutes after half-time when Greek defender Nikolaos Spyropoulos turned Roberto Colautti's cross past his own goalkeeper, Michael Sifakis. However, Hellas captain Georgios Karagounis slotted home from the penalty spot just after the hour mark to clinch three points for the hosts, who now lead Croatia by a single point at the section summit.

Hellas were forced into a change after just 15 minutes due to an injury to Sotirios Ninis, with Olympiacos C.F.P. teenager Ioannis Fetfatzidis coming on for his second international appearance. However, that did not affect the hosts' gameplan as P.A.O.K. striker Salpingidis broke the deadlock, outpacing the Israel defence to control Pantelis Kafes's threaded pass before lifting the ball over Dudu Aouate and into the net.

Karagounis then tested Aouate's reflexes with a stinging shot from distance as the hosts sought to turn the screw. Israel's best chance to level came five minutes before half-time, but Lior Refaelov blazed his free-kick over. Fetfatzidis proved a constant threat in the second half for Hellas with his superb dribbling and direct running, but he could not prevent Israel drawing level when Spyropoulos accidentally turned in Colautti's low cross under pressure from Etey Shechter.

That prompted a near-immediate response from Hellas, Salpingidis surging into the penalty area before being upended by Aouate in the 63rd minute. From the resulting spot kick, Karagounis stroked the ball into the bottom right corner to put the home side back in front, and they held on to their lead comfortably.

UEFA Euro 2012™ Qualifiers: Πρώτη νίκη για την Ελλάδα, 1-0 τη Λετονία

Μετά τις ισοπαλίες με Γεωργία και Κροατία, η Εθνική αναζητούσε μια νέα αρχή στο ματς με τη Λετονία στο ''Στάδιο Γεώργιος Καραϊσκάκης'' την Παρασκευή, για την 3η αγωνιστική των Προκριματικών του U.E.F.A. Euro 2012 και αυτή ήρθε. Όχι μόνο με το τελικό 1-0, με το ωραίο γκολ του Τοροσίδη στο 58', αλλά και με την καλή εμφάνιση που γέννησε ελπίδες για τη συνέχεια, κάτι που έκανε και το ντεμπούτο του Γιάννη Φετφατζίδη.

Ο νεαρός διεθνής του Ολυμπιακού Σ.Φ.Π. αποτέλεσε ''λαϊκή απαίτηση'' από τα μέσα του δεύτερου ημιχρόνου, μπήκε αντί του Νίνη στο 83', έκανε δύο-τρεις πολύ καλές ενέργειες και άφησε υποσχέσεις, σε ένα ματς στο οποίο ο Γιώργος Καραγκούνης συμπλήρωσε 100 συμμετοχές, βραβεύθηκε από την Ε.Π.Ο. και τον Π.Σ.Α.Π. και καταχειροκροτήθηκε.

Ο Σαμαράς φώναξε ''παρών'' στην 11άδα και παρατάχθηκε στο αριστερό άκρο της επίθεσης, με τον Νίνη δεξιά και τον Μήτρογλου στην κορυφή. Το 4-3-3 είχε τους Καραγκούνη, Κατσουράνη και Τζιόλη στο κέντρο, με τους Τοροσίδη, Τζαβέλλα, Αβραάμ. Παπαδόπουλο και Παπασταθόπουλο μπροστά από τον Σηφάκη. Από την άλλη πλευρά, σύστημα 4-4-2 από τον Aleksandr Starkovs, με Verpakovskis και Rudnevs στην επίθεση.

Η Ελλάδα κυριάρχησε απόλυτα στο πρώτο ημίχρονο (78% - 22% η κατοχή μπάλας). Έπαιξε καλό ποδόσφαιρο, με ανάπτυξη από τα άκρα, καλή κυκλοφορία και πίεση. Οι ευκαιρίες δημιουργήθηκαν, κάποιες αρκετά καλές (16', 40' Μήτρογλου, 23' Τοροσίδης, 32' Νίνης), οι τελικές προσπάθειες πολλές (13), αλλά είτε η αστοχία είτε ο Vaņins κρατούσαν το 0-0. Το πέναλτι που ζήτησε ο Τοροσίδης στο 26' δεν ήρθε, αντίθετα ήρθε η κίτρινη κάρτα που του στερεί τη συμμετοχή στον αγώνα με το Ισραήλ.

Το β' ημίχρονο άρχισε χωρίς αλλαγές και χωρίς να αλλάξει η εικόνα της αναμέτρησης. Η Ελλάδα ήταν και πάλι το αφεντικό, πιέζοντας για να φτάσει στο γκολ. Αυτό δεν ήρθε στις δύο πρώτες καλές στιγμές (49' Μήτρογλου, 54' Καραγκούνης), αλλά με εντυπωσιακό τρόπο με τον Τοροσίδη στο 58'.

Μετά το γκολ η Εθνική διατήρησε τον έλεγχο της αναμέτρησης, συνέχισε να παίζει επιθετικά για να φτάσει στο 2ο γκολ που θα έδιωχνε το άγχος. Οι Λετονοί έδειξαν διάθεση να παίξουν πιο ανοικτά, αλλά ουδέποτε απείλησαν, την ώρα που η Ελλάδα είχε τις καλές στιγμές και τις ευκαιρίες, ιδίως με τον Μήτρογλου (68', 73', 75').

Στο τελευταίο 10λεπτο ο Σάντος ''ικανοποίησε'' την επιθυμία της εξέδρας, βάζοντας τον Φετφατζίδη στον αγώνα, ο οποίος αποθεώθηκε, δίνοντας την ευκαιρία στο μικρό να κάνει το ντεμπούτο του. Ο μικρός είχε τρακ αλλά και διάθεση, έκανε δύο-τρεις πολύ καλές ενέργειες μέχρι το τέλος παίζοντας δεξιά και δεν ''κρύφτηκε'', δείχνοντας ποδοσφαιρικό ''θράσος''.

Hellas recorded their first victory of U.E.F.A. Euro 2012 qualifying at the expense of Latvia, defeating their Group F rivals 1-0 in Piraeus.

After dominating possession for long spells of a tentative encounter, Olympiacos C.F.P. defender Vasilios Torosidis broke Latvia's resistance in the 58th minute, scoring with a clinical finish following a neat exchange of passes with Constantinos Katsouranis. The result takes Hellas level with Georgia on five points.

Hellas and Latvia were meeting just two days shy of a year since their last encounter, when Hellas prevailed 5-2 in 2010 F.I.F.A. World Cup qualifying. There was little hint of a similar scoreline during the first half despite the home side dictating possession. Hellas captain Georgios Karagounis, on his 100th international appearance, was the first to try his luck in the tenth minute but his speculative effort comfortably cleared the crossbar. Constantinos Mitroglou, leading the hosts' attack, registered their first attempt on target five minutes later with a glancing header which Andris Vaņins tipped over.

Latvia frustrated their hosts with a display of admirable discipline and organisation, restricting them to long-range strikes for the remainder of the half. Sotirios Ninis and Torosidis tried their luck but were both denied by the resilient Vaņins. At the other end Latvia could have gone ahead themselves when Māris Verpakovskis broke clear in the 44th minute following a defensive mix-up, but the G.S. Lyttos-Ergotelis Heraklio striker took one touch too many and Georgios Tzavellas made a crucial recovering tackle.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first, Karagounis flashing a shot narrowly over from the edge of the box, before the deadlock was finally broken by Torosidis. The 25-year-old surged down the right and, after a neat one-two with Katsouranis, slotted the ball past Vaņins and into the corner. Hellas held on for a comfortable victory that ended with coach Fernando Manuel Santos handing a first cap to Olympiacos C.F.P. playmaker Ioannis Fetfatzidis, the 19-year-old replacing Ninis after 82 minutes.

UEFA Euro 2012™ Qualifiers: ''Πολύτιμη'' ισοπαλία 0-0 στο Ζάγκρεμπ

Μετά το 1-1 με την Γεωργία στο Φάληρο, ο αγώνας με την Κροατία στο ''Stadion Maksimir'' του Ζάγκρεμπ έμοιαζε χθες για την Ελλάδα με αγώνα επιβίωσης στην προκριματική φάση του U.E.F.A. Euro 2012™. Το τελικό 0-0 κρατά ''ζωντανή'' την Εθνική στη διεκδίκηση της πρόκρισης, καθώς απέχει δύο βαθμούς από τους πρωτοπόρους Κροάτες και Ισραηλινούς στον 6ο όμιλο μετά από δύο αγώνες.

Το πρώτο ημίχρονο κύλησε στα μέτρα της Ελλάδας. Μετά το πρώτο 10λεπτο, στο οποίο οι Κροάτες είχαν ενθουσιασμό και δύο καλά σουτ (5' Modrić, 8' Kranjčar), η Εθνική έλεγξε το ρυθμό, έκλεισε όλους τους χώρους, ''βραχυκύκλωσε'' τον Modrić και πέρασε ήσυχο 35λεπτο.

Βέβαια επιθετικά δεν δημιούργησε κάτι αξιόλογο, αν και είχε την καλή ευκαιρία του Σαμαρά στο 19' (που προήλθε από λάθος Κροατών). Ο Bilić άλλαξε θέσεις και κινήσεις σε αρκετούς μεσοεπιθετικούς παίκτες του, αλλά δεν είδε αποτέλεσμα.

Η εικόνα δεν άλλαξε στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο. Οι Κροάτες είχαν την κατοχή μπάλας και την επιθετική διάθεση, ιδίως με τις σταδιακές αλλαγές του Bilić  που φρέσκαρε την επιθετική γραμμή. Όμως με εξαίρεση τις δύο ευκαιρίες στο ίδιο λεπτό (59') με τους Rakitić και Ćorluka, δεν απείλησαν ουσιαστικά τον Σηφάκη.

Η Ελλάδα από την πλευρά της δεν ρίσκαρε, δεν έδωσε βάση στη δημιουργία παιχνιδιού, ενώ ούτε η είσοδος του Γκέκα αντί του τραυματία Σαλπιγγίδη στο 54' και του Νίνη αντί του Καραγκούνη στο 70' άλλαξαν την εικόνα της ομάδας. Οι Κροάτες προσπάθησαν να πιέσουν στο τελευταίο 15λεπτο, αλλά χωρίς αποτέλεσμα, παρά τις μεγάλες ευκαιρίες του Eduardo στο 88' και στο 90'+3 και το 0-0 δεν άλλαξε.

Croatia were forced to settle for a goalless draw in Group F after a concerted rearguard action allowed Hellas to escape Zagreb yesterday with a UEFA Euro 2012™ qualifying point.

Hellas had come from behind to draw 1-1 with Georgia four days earlier after conceding inside three minutes, but Fernando Santos's team started as they meant to go on at the Stadion Maksimir. On a frustrating night, Slaven Bilić's men dominated possession but struggled to break down a well-drilled defensive wall, with second-half efforts from substitutes Jelavić and Eduardo the closest Croatia came to breaking through.

The home side had begun brightly, moving the ball swiftly through Kranjčar and Modrić, the latter back after a thigh injury forced him to miss Friday's 3-0 win in Latvia. With the wing-backs providing attacking width and the impressive Pranjić often involved, Croatia looked intent on getting an early opener. However, a deflected Kranjčar effort after eight minutes, pushed for a corner by goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis, was as close as they would come before half-time.

Hellas contained, harried and after 18 minutes went close to an opener when Georgios Samaras pounced on Ćorluka's miscontrol and chipped just wide. The chance was a rarity, though the game sparked to life at the start of the second period when substitute Jelavić and Georgios Tzavellas had efforts ruled out for offside and a foul respectively. Another Croatia replacement, Rakitić, also went close with a long-range shot tipped behind for a corner from which Ćorluka headed just wide.

Back came Croatia, chipping away at Avraam Papadopoulos and Sokratis Papastathopoulos and, as tiredness set in, chinks appeared in Hellas' back line in the closing stages. Jelavić, Kranjčar and Pranjić were all unable to capitalise, however, while substitute Eduardo could not get enough on Rakitić's late inswinging corner.

UEFA Euro 2012™ Qualifiers: ''Γκέλα'' για την Εθνική, 1-1 με τη Γεωργία

Η αρχή της Εθνικής ομάδας στα προκριματικά του U.E.F.A. Euro 2012™ δεν ήταν η αρχή. Στο επίσημο ντεμπούτο του Fernando Santos, η Ελλάδα αναδείχθηκε ισόπαλη 1-1 με την Γεωργία στο ''Στάδιο Γεώργιος Καραϊσκάκης'' την Παρασκευή 3 Σεπτεμβρίου και πέταξε από νωρίς δύο πολύτιμους βαθμούς στη μάχη για την κατάκτηση της πρώτης θέσης του 6ου ομίλου, η οποία οδηγεί απευθείας στα τελικά.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι αυτή ήταν η πρώτη απώλεια βαθμών για την Ελλάδα απέναντι στην Γεωργία, καθώς στις προηγούμενες πέντε αναμετρήσεις των δύο ομάδων είχε ισάριθμες νίκες!

Η Γεωργία αιφνιδίασε την Εθνική με το γρήγορο γκολ του Iashvili στο 3'. Οι διεθνείς ήταν πλέον αναγκασμένοι να κυνηγήσουν το σκορ υπό πίεση. Οι φιλοξενούμενοι αμύνθηκαν με διπλή ζώνη άμυνας, έκλεισαν τους χώρους και ''έβγαλαν'' εύκολα το ημίχρονο, παρά την αλλαγή του ελληνικού συστήματος σε 4-3-3 μετά το 30' (κορυφή ο Γκέκας, δεξιά ο Σαλπιγγίδης, αριστερά ο Σαμαράς) και την προσπάθεια μεγαλύτερης ανάπτυξης από τα άκρα.

Οι σέντρες που κατά βάση επιχειρήθηκαν αντιμετωπίστηκαν άνετα από τους Γεωργιανούς και έτσι το 0-1 δεν άλλαξε ως το 45', παρά τα δύο απειλητικά σουτ των Σαλπιγγίδη (38') και Παπαδόπουλου Αβραάμ (42').

Οι Ελληνες διεθνείς μπήκαν δυνατά στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο, με το 4-3-3 να παραμένει. Πίεσαν ασφυκτικά στο πρώτο 10λεπτο και έχασαν τρεις μεγάλες ευκαιρίες με τους Γκέκα (50') και Σαλπιγγίδη (52', 54'). Ωστόσο αυτό δεν συνεχίστηκε και ο Santos έβαλε στο 59' τον Νίνη αντί του Σαμαρά και στην ίδια θέση που έπαιζε ο επιθετικός της The Celtic F.C. (αριστερά στην επίθεση).

Η ελληνική κατοχή μπάλας παρέμεινε, αλλά οι ευκαιρίες δεν συνεχίστηκαν. Ο Santos έριξε και τον Μήτρογλου στο 71' αντί του Σεϊταρίδη, γυρίζοντας το σύστημα σε 4-4-2 (Μήτρογλου-Γκέκας κορυφή, Σαλπιγγίδης-Νίνης στα άκρα) και ένα λεπτό αργότερα ήρθε το 1-1 με το ωραίο γκολ του Σπυρόπουλου. Η Εθνική πίεσε ως το τέλος για να φτάσει στο γκολ της νίκης, είχε μία-δύο καλές στιγμές, με κορυφαία την ευκαιρία του Μήτρογλου στην εκπνοή, αλλά δεν τα κατάφερε, ενώ γλίτωσε και το 1-2 στην ευκαιρία του Ananidze στο 2ο λεπτό των καθυστερήσεων.

Coach Fernando Santos endured a frustrating competitive debut as Greece opened their U.E.F.A. Euro 2012™ Qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against Georgia, on Friday 3rd of September 2010.

Temuri Ketsbaia, returning to the country he once called home as a player and coach, watched on as Aleksandr Iashvili's third-minute strike put the Georgians ahead in the Group F encounter. The 2004 European champions struggled to create a goal threat until 18 minutes from the end when Nikos Spyropoulos salvaged a point with a searing volley.

Hellas experienced an inauspicious start to their qualifying campaign when Kvirkvelia played in Iashvili and the Karlsruher S.C. striker stole in behind the home defence before prodding a low finish through the legs of goalkeeper Sifakis. The hosts enjoyed plenty of possession but were reduced to long-range efforts. Spyropoulos and captain Karagounis both tried their luck unsuccessfully before Salpingidis roused the home crowd with a surging run that culminated in a zipping shot that flashed narrowly wide.

Centre-back Avraam Papadopoulos then went close with a 25-metre drive which Revishvili tipped over the crossbar just before half-time. A lively start to the second period seemed to bode well for Hellas with Gekas blazing a shot over the bar before Salpingidis narrowly failed to convert Seitaridis's cross in the 52nd minute.

Ketsbaia introduced F.K. Spartak Moskva's exciting 17-year-old midfielder Jano Ananidze early in the second half but Helleas' pressure finally paid dividends when, after substitute Mitroglou's back-heel was cleared off the line, left-back Spyropoulos scored with a volley. Santos's side pushed for a winner but Mitroglou volleyed over the bar from a difficult angle in the third minute of added time.

FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™: Η Ελλάδα δεν τα κατάφερε 0-2 από την Αργεντινή / Ηellas did not make it, lost 0-2 from Argentina

Η πρόκριση χάθηκε στην πρεμιέρα... Το 0-2 από τη Νότιο Κορέα αποδείχθηκε μοιραίο καθώς η νίκη επί της Νιγηρίας και η υπερπροσπάθεια κόντρα στην Αργεντινή, δεν ήταν αρκετές. Το 2-0 των αστεριών του Diego Armando Maradona στις 22 Ιουνίου στο ''Peter Mokaba Stadium'' του Polokwane έκοψε τα ''φτερά'' των Ελλήνων διεθνών, ενώ το όνειρο της συμμετοχής στις 16 κορυφαίες ομάδες του FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™ κράτησε ουσιαστικά μόλις για 26 λεπτά (όσο έμενε το 0-0 και η Νιγηρία είχε προηγηθεί στο άλλο ματς).

Καλά στημένη η εθνική στο πρώτο ημίχρονο, κινδύνεψε αρκετά, μετά το 20λεπτο, αλλά στάθηκε όρθια, χάρις στις εκπληκτικές επεμβάσεις του Τζόρβα στα σουτ των Αργεντίνων, αλλά και στις  γρήγορες και έγκαιρες τοποθετήσεις των αμυντικών. Ο Παπασταθόπουλος τα πήγε εξαιρετικά πάνω στον Messi (ξεκίνησε με δύο «καθαρά» κοψίματα και ένα φάουλ), ο οποίος έκανε το πρώτο του σουτ (πήγαινε για γκολ) στις καθυστερήσεις.

Μέχρι το 18' η Ελλάδα δεν είχε απειληθεί, ακολούθησε ένα δίλεπτο ''φωτιά'', με τον Τζόρβα να δείχνει πως είναι σε εξαιρετική βραδιά. Η πίεση της Αργεντινής έγινε εντονότερη μετά το 30', και στο τελευταίο δίλεπτο άγγιξε το γκολ με τους Agüero και Messi, αλλά ο Έλληνας πορτιέρο φαινόταν ανίκητος.

Όσο για το παιχνίδι των παικτών του Rehhagel; Οι διεθνείς έκαναν βαθιές μπαλιές στον Σαμαρά, που ακόμα και όταν έβρισκε την μπάλα, ήταν αδύνατο να απειλήσει καθώς ήταν τόσο μόνος. Το 0-0 στο 45λεπτο άφηνε εκτός συνέχειας την Ελλάδα και τα πράγματα έγιναν χειρότερα με την έναρξη του δευτέρου ημιχρόνου.

Κι αυτό γιατί στο 48' ο Σαμαράς έχανε ευκαιρία για το 1-0 και στο επόμενο λεπτό οι Νοτιοκορεάτες έκαναν το 2-1. Πλέον η πρόκριση απομακρυνόταν, ενώ ο Rehhagel  έβλεπε τους Καραγκούνη, Κατσουράνη και Τοροσίδη να αποχωρούν τραυματίες. Οι αλλαγές αποσυντόνισαν την ελληνική ομάδα, αλλά ο Τζόρβας είπε ''όχι'' σε Messi και Bolatti και η «γαλανόλευκη» κρατούσε τουλάχιστον το μηδέν στην άμυνα και τις όποιες ελπίδες πρόκρισης.

Ο χρόνος κυλούσε, η Αργεντινή πίεζε και τελικά σε μια φάση που στάθηκε αρκετά τυχερή, ο Demichelis βρήκε μια «τρύπα» και σκόραρε (1-0 στο 77΄). Το αποτέλεσμα αυτό, παρότι την ίδια ώρα η Νιγηρία ισοφάριζε τη Νότιος Κορέα, άφηνε εκτός συνέχειας την Ελλάδα.

Ο Rehhagel έδωσε εντολή να βγουν όλοι μπροστά, αλλά τίποτα δεν άλλαξε για καλό, παρά μόνο το τελικό σκορ, με τον Palermo να κάνει το 2-0 στο 89' και να δίνει πανηγυρικό τόνο στην πρόκριση της ''αλμπισελέστε''.

Argentina booked a last-16 date with Mexico as their two Martins – Demichelis and Palermo – ended Hellas' faint hopes of qualification by wrapping up a 2-0 victory in Polokwane. Hellas had kept the South Americans at bay until the 77th minute but they could do little to prevent Diego Maradona's side from securing top spot in Group B with an impressive win at the ''Peter Mokoba Stadium''.

Otto Rehhagel's side simply needed to better the result of Korea Republic to claim a place in the last 16, and with Maradona rotating his starting 11, as expected, with no fewer than seven changes from the side that swept aside Korea Republic, the Greeks could must have felt more confident of achieving their aim.

However, there was no doubting Hellas had a Herculean task on their hands, and they were virtual by-standers in the opening minutes as Argentina stroked the ball around confidently, guided by the returning Verón. Messi, lively from the start, demonstrated his threat as early as the tenth minute, riding the challenges of Katsouranis and Tziolis, before eventually being stopped in his tracks by the outstretched leg of Papastathoppoulos.

Hellas were defending in numbers in a bid to thwart their opponents, and were relying on long balls into Samaras in any bid to switch defence into attack. However, if Rehhagel's side were slowly finding their feet – only the outstretched leg of Demichelis brought an end to Samaras's promising charge into the box 12 minutes in – Maradona's side were still well in command.

And when the southern Europeans' sporadic attacks broke down, the action quickly switched back to the other end, where Tzorvas was unquestionably the busiest man of the night. Agüero smashed in a left-footed drive which he athletically palmed away, and the Greek goalkeeper had to be equally alert moments later, when the power of the long-range drive from Veron was only matched by the quality of Tzvorvas's tip-over.

If Hellas were going to claw their way back into this game it was going to be through Samaras. Just two minutes into the second period, the Celtic F.C. forward was picked out with another long ball but, despite wriggling free of his markers, he could only flash his shot wide. However, the momentum remained with Argentina, who needed just a draw to see them into the last 16. Milito might have headed them into a lead, but the striker failed to connect with Clemente Rodríguez's dangerous-looking cross and, shortly after, Rodríguez had a go himself from long range but was unable to find the target.

Messi and Bolatti were both thwarted by Tzorvas as the decibel level rose in the Peter Mokaba Stadium. And the noise levels went through the roof in the 77th minute when Demichelis's goalbound header from a Di María corner rebounded off Milito and back into the path of the Argentina defender, who gratefully smashed home a left-footed shot to give Maradona's side the lead they had long threatened.

Messi, Argentina's captain for the night, was denied by the post and then Tzorvas in the dying minutes, but Hellas could do nothing to stop Palermo from side-footing home Argentina's second a minute from time after Messi had again been thwarted.

FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™: Η Ελλάδα ''έγραψε'' ιστορία, 2-1 τη Νιγηρία / Hellas make History with Win 2-1 over Nigeria

Η Εθνική είναι εδώ. Ακόμα και όταν όλα είναι εναντίον της, όταν βρίσκεται πίσω στο σκορ από το 16' με γκολ του Uche («προσφορά» του Τζόρβα). Με επική ανατροπή, μεγάλα ψυχικά αποθέματα και πολύ καλή εμφάνιση, η Ελλάδα νίκησε χθες 2-1 τη Νιγηρία στο ''Free State Stadium'' του Mangaung/Bloemfontein, για τη 2η αγωνιστική του Β' Oμίλου και πλέον ελπίζει βάσιμα σε πρόκριση.

Ξεπερνώντας το σοκ του γρήγορου 0-1 και αξιοποιώντας την αποβολή του Kaita στο 33', οι διεθνείς κυριάρχησαν, έχασαν πολλές ευκαιρίες, άξιζαν περισσότερα γκολ από τα δύο που πέτυχε, τα πρώτα της σε FIFA World Cup και πανηγύρισε δίκαια την πρώτη νίκη σε τελική φάση Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου.

Παράλληλα έγινε η πρώτη ομάδα, μετά την Γαλλία στο 2ο γύρο του FIFA World Cup 2006, που ανατρέπει αποτέλεσμα σε τελικά! Οι ''τρικολόρ'' είχαν επικρατήσει με 3-1 της Ισπανίας, αν και έχαναν 1-0.

Ο Rehhagel παρέταξε την Εθνική με 3 κεντρικούς αμυντικούς (Παπαδόπουλος Αβρ. ως ελεύθερος, Παπασταθόπουλος, Κυργιάκος). Βύντρα και Τοροσίδης ήταν στα δύο άκρα, με τους Τζιόλη και Κατσουράνη σε ρόλο αμυντικών μέσων. Οσο για την επιθετική τριπλέτα, ο Σαλπιγγίδης ήταν δεξιά, ο Καραγκούνης αριστερά και ο Γκέκας στην κορυφή. Από την άλλη πλευρά, ο Σουηδός Lars Lagerbäck παρέταξε τη Νιγηρία με 4-4-2 (Odemwingie και Ayegbeni στην κορυφή).

Η Ελλάδα μπήκε καλά στο παιχνίδι. Πίεσε, δεν αιφνιδιάστηκε νωρίς και διατήρησε ισορροπημένη την εικόνα του αγώνα. Ωστόσο το γκολ του Uche στο 16' σε ακίνδυνη φάση, με μακρινή εκτέλεση φάουλ και ολέθριο λάθος του Τζόρβα, άλλαξε τα δεδομένα. Η Εθνική ''πάγωσε'', η Νιγηρία είχε το πλεονέκτημα αλλά δεν απειλούσε.

Η αποβολή του Kaita στο 33' (χτύπησε τον Τοροσίδη) άλλαξε τα πάντα. Ο Rehhagel έριξε τον Σαμαρά αντί του Παπασταθόπουλου και η Εθνική βγήκε μαζικά στην επίθεση. Πίεσε τη Νιγηρία, είχε δύο μεγάλες ευκαιρίες (39' Σαλπιγγίδης, 41' Σαμαράς) και έφτασε στην ισοφάριση, στο παρθενικό της γκολ σε FIFA World Cup, με τον Σαλπιγγίδη στο 44'.

Στο B' ημίχρονο η Ελλάδα παρέμενε η καλύτερη ομάδα. Αξιοποιώντας το αριθμητικό πλεονέκτημα, είχε την πρωτοβουλία και δημιούργησε σειρά ευκαιριών (47' Καραγκούνης, 55' Κυργιάκος, 59', 68' Γκέκας, 68' Σαμαράς), ωστόσο ενίοτε άφηνε χώρους και οι Νιγηριανοί απείλησαν στο 48' με τον Uche και έχασαν μεγάλη διπλή ευκαιρία στο 59' (Ayegbeni, Obasi).

Η δικαίωση των προσπαθειών της Εθνικής ήρθε στο 71' με το γκολ του Τοροσίδη. Η Ελλάδα δεν ανέκοψε ρυθμό, απλά δεν ρίσκαρε τόσο, πλέον (ο Rehhagel έβαλε τον Νίνη αντί του Γκέκα), είχε άλλες τέσσερις καλές στιγμές (75', 77' Καραγκούνης, 81' Κυργιάκος, 90'+3 Τζιόλης) και τελικά έφτασε στη μεγάλη νίκη. Οι Αφρικανοί δεν μπόρεσαν να απειλήσουν, έχοντας ένα καλό σουτ του Ayegbeni (76').

Hellas scored their first goals and secured their first victory in a FIFA World Cup™, coming from behind to beat yesterday Nigeria 2-1 in their second Group B match in Mangaung/Bloemfontein.

It all looked like being so different for the Super Eagles, who opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Uche, but a straight red card for Kaita just after the half-hour swung the balance in the favour of the Europeans, who duly secured their first-ever victory in a FIFA World Cup™ match thanks to goals from Salpingidis in 44' and Torosidis in 71'. The result left Hellas third in Group B, level on points with second-placed Korea Republic. Nigeria remain pointless and will now have to beat the South Koreans in their final first-phase outing to have any chance of advancing.

Uche's goal was the first in the tournament to come direct from a free-kick, though his 35-yard effort from the left flank was intended centre.  Hellas goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas was distracted by the run of Odemwingie, though, and let the ball go past him untouched. The game changed in the 33rd minute, though, with Kaita's sending-off for kicking out at Torosidis after the ball had run out on the sideline. Sensing the opportunity, Hellas coach Otto Rehhagel brought on Samaras to increase their attacking options. The Europeans duly began to dominate the proceedings and split open the Nigeria defence soon after, but goalkeeper Enyeama, who impressed in their 1-0 loss to Argentina, denied an unmarked Salpingidis from ten yards.

Six minutes later, Enyeama was beaten, but midfielder Haruna saved Samaras's flicked, close-range shot from crossing the line. However, Haruna was not so fortunate in the 44th minute as Katsouranis laid the ball off to Salpingidis, whose blast from 20 yards deflected off the young A.S. Monaco midfielder and into the back of the net.

The second half began where the first left off, and Karagounis found himself with a free header near the penalty spot, but the captain could not keep his attempt down. The two goalkeepers took turns playing hero then, with Tzorvas tipping over Uche's delicate cross from the left side of the box when it seemed like it might sneak under his bar. Enyeama spared Yobo's blushes after a poor clearance, with a diving save from Gekas's header in the 59th minute.

From that chance, the west Africans broke back the other way immediately, and Ayegbeni saw his shot denied spectacularly by the outstretched left hand of the Hellas keeper. Half-time substitute Obasi missed the rebound with the goal at his mercy. Enyeama again showed all of his ability in denying Samaras's header from a short corner after a stretched dive to his left, but the Hapoel Tel-Aviv man would have to take the blame for the Greek winner after he spilled Tziolis's long-range shot into the path of Torosidis of Olympiacos C.F.P., who buried the chance in the 71st minute.

The game, however, remained wide open and Enyeama, who has arguably been the goalkeeper of the tournament thus far and was named Budweiser Man of the Match yesterday, made another top-drawer save from Karagounis six minutes after his mistake. For Nigeria, this was their seventh FIFA World Cup match without victory.

FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™: Κατώτερη των περιστάσεων η Ελλάδα 0-2 από τη Νότιο Κορέα / Hellas - Korea Republic 0-2

Η πρεμιέρα της Ελλάδας το Σάββατο 12 Ιουνίου στο FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™ δεν έφερε χαμόγελα. Η κακή εμφάνιση (στα πρώτα 70 λεπτά) και τα λάθη, έφεραν την ήττα με 2-0 από την Νότιο Κορέα (7' Jung Soo Lee, 52' Ji Sung Park) στο ''Port Elizabeth Stadium'' της Nelson Mandela Bay / Port Elizabeth, στο πρώτο παιχνίδι του Β' Ομίλου.

Ο Rehhagel παρέταξε την Εθνική με 4-3-3, τελικά, με τους Αβραάμ Παπαδόπουλο και Βύντρα στο κέντρο της άμυνας, ενώ ο Κατσουράνης ήταν στη μεσαία γραμμή (με Καραγκούνη, Τζιόλη) και οι Χαριστέας, Σαμαράς και Γκέκας στην επίθεση. Σύστημα 4-4-2 επέλεξε ο Jung Moo Huh για την Νότιο Κορέα.

Αν και η Εθνική άρχισε καλά, χάνοντας ευκαιρία στο 3' με τον Τοροσίδη, η συνέχεια ανήκε στους Κορεάτες, οι οποίοι προηγήθηκαν στο 7' με τον Jung Soo Lee (αστάθεια της ελληνικής άμυνας σε στημένη φάση), ήταν μια ταχύτητα πάνω από τους Ελληνες διεθνείς, αμύνθηκαν αποτελεσματικά, δεν κινδύνεψαν στα στημένα και ήταν επικίνδυνοι στις αντεπιθέσεις (ευκαιρία στο 28' με τον Ji Sung Park).

Η Εθνική ''πάγωσε'', οι Κορεάτες επιβλήθηκαν αξιοποιώντας την αμυντική αστάθεια και άγγιξαν το 3-0 με τον Chu Young Park στο 63'. Ο Rehhagel έκανε νωρίς και τις άλλες δύο κινήσεις, με τους Σαλπιγγίδη και Καπετάνο αντί των Σαμαρά (59') και Χαριστέα (61') και σιγά-σιγά ήρθε η αντίδραση.

Ένα πιεστικό 3λεπτο έφερε τρεις ευκαιρίες (69' Γκέκας, 70' Σαλπιγγίδης, 71' Καπετάνος) και μια ζωντάνια στο τελευταίο 20λεπτο, αλλά η ήττα δεν απεφεύχθη, ενώ ούτε το γκολ της τιμής ήρθε στο 81' με τον Γκέκα.

Korea Republic claimed the first victory at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ as a goal early in each half made it a disappointing start for Group B opponents Hellas.

The South Koreans were the dominant force for virtually all of the first half in the Port Elizabeth Stadium although they had to withstand some initial pressure from Hellas with Vasileios Torosidis seeing an effort fly off target. The same player should then have scored following Georgios Karagounis's corner but he put a decent chance wide from nine yards.

Jung-Moo Huh's side shrugged off that scare and proceeded to pin their opponents back, and with only seven minutes gone they forged ahead. A free-kick from near the left-hand corner flag found the blue shirts all at sea and at the far post Jung Soo Lee pounced to sidefoot home and become his country's fastest-ever scorer at a FIFA World Cup.

Hellas, European champions in 2004, never recovered from that setback and Korea smelled the chance of further goals with Manchester United's Ji Sung Park always a danger and Ki Hun Yeom also pulling the strings. In the 28th minute the South Koreans, fast-raiding and adroit with their ball control, fashioned an outstanding chance to double their advantage as Ji Sung Park slid a lovely ball into the feet of Chu Young Park.

Chu Young Park was clear of the last man but just as he attempted to seal his strong run with a scoring finish, a combination of the back-pedalling Loukas Vyntra and Alexandros Tzorvas denied him, the goalkeeper making a vital intervention to deflect the ball over. Hellas had to change their approach and Otto Rehhagel decided to take off captain Karagounis at the break with Christos Patsatzoglou coming in. However with another goal seven minutes into the second period, Korea put the game as good as out of reach.

It was a disaster for Hellenic defending as they gave possession away inside their own half through Vyntra and were left helpless as Ji Sung Park took ruthless advantage. There was strength, control and determination in his run as he tore into the penalty area before burying a left-footed shot past Tzorvas to become only the second Asian player to score in three different FIFA World Cups, having also found the net in 2002 and 2006.  It should have been three minutes later as Chu Young Park dashed between defenders to meet a cross from the right but he could not keep his header down.

Hellas, who had not managed a goal in any of their three previous FIFA World Cup games – all of which had been lost in 1994 – had no option but to give everything to try and claw back the deficit. They looked to Theofanis Gekas, who with ten goals was the leading scorer in European qualifying, to inspire an recovery, and he tried an ambitious overhead kick which went over. Soon after Pantelis Kapetanos scooped the ball over as it was drilled in from the left while Gekas forced Sung Ryong Jung into a fine save at the end. But there was no dispute that Korea were good value for their three points.
