Η Εθνική είναι εδώ. Ακόμα και όταν όλα είναι εναντίον της, όταν βρίσκεται πίσω στο σκορ από το 16' με γκολ του Uche («προσφορά» του Τζόρβα). Με επική ανατροπή, μεγάλα ψυχικά αποθέματα και πολύ καλή εμφάνιση, η Ελλάδα νίκησε χθες 2-1 τη Νιγηρία στο ''Free State Stadium'' του Mangaung/Bloemfontein, για τη 2η αγωνιστική του Β' Oμίλου και πλέον ελπίζει βάσιμα σε πρόκριση.
Ξεπερνώντας το σοκ του γρήγορου 0-1 και αξιοποιώντας την αποβολή του Kaita στο 33', οι διεθνείς κυριάρχησαν, έχασαν πολλές ευκαιρίες, άξιζαν περισσότερα γκολ από τα δύο που πέτυχε, τα πρώτα της σε FIFA World Cup και πανηγύρισε δίκαια την πρώτη νίκη σε τελική φάση Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου.
Παράλληλα έγινε η πρώτη ομάδα, μετά την Γαλλία στο 2ο γύρο του FIFA World Cup 2006, που ανατρέπει αποτέλεσμα σε τελικά! Οι ''τρικολόρ'' είχαν επικρατήσει με 3-1 της Ισπανίας, αν και έχαναν 1-0.
Ο Rehhagel παρέταξε την Εθνική με 3 κεντρικούς αμυντικούς (Παπαδόπουλος Αβρ. ως ελεύθερος, Παπασταθόπουλος, Κυργιάκος). Βύντρα και Τοροσίδης ήταν στα δύο άκρα, με τους Τζιόλη και Κατσουράνη σε ρόλο αμυντικών μέσων. Οσο για την επιθετική τριπλέτα, ο Σαλπιγγίδης ήταν δεξιά, ο Καραγκούνης αριστερά και ο Γκέκας στην κορυφή. Από την άλλη πλευρά, ο Σουηδός Lars Lagerbäck παρέταξε τη Νιγηρία με 4-4-2 (Odemwingie και Ayegbeni στην κορυφή).
Η Ελλάδα μπήκε καλά στο παιχνίδι. Πίεσε, δεν αιφνιδιάστηκε νωρίς και διατήρησε ισορροπημένη την εικόνα του αγώνα. Ωστόσο το γκολ του Uche στο 16' σε ακίνδυνη φάση, με μακρινή εκτέλεση φάουλ και ολέθριο λάθος του Τζόρβα, άλλαξε τα δεδομένα. Η Εθνική ''πάγωσε'', η Νιγηρία είχε το πλεονέκτημα αλλά δεν απειλούσε.
Η αποβολή του Kaita στο 33' (χτύπησε τον Τοροσίδη) άλλαξε τα πάντα. Ο Rehhagel έριξε τον Σαμαρά αντί του Παπασταθόπουλου και η Εθνική βγήκε μαζικά στην επίθεση. Πίεσε τη Νιγηρία, είχε δύο μεγάλες ευκαιρίες (39' Σαλπιγγίδης, 41' Σαμαράς) και έφτασε στην ισοφάριση, στο παρθενικό της γκολ σε FIFA World Cup, με τον Σαλπιγγίδη στο 44'.
Στο B' ημίχρονο η Ελλάδα παρέμενε η καλύτερη ομάδα. Αξιοποιώντας το αριθμητικό πλεονέκτημα, είχε την πρωτοβουλία και δημιούργησε σειρά ευκαιριών (47' Καραγκούνης, 55' Κυργιάκος, 59', 68' Γκέκας, 68' Σαμαράς), ωστόσο ενίοτε άφηνε χώρους και οι Νιγηριανοί απείλησαν στο 48' με τον Uche και έχασαν μεγάλη διπλή ευκαιρία στο 59' (Ayegbeni, Obasi).
Η δικαίωση των προσπαθειών της Εθνικής ήρθε στο 71' με το γκολ του Τοροσίδη. Η Ελλάδα δεν ανέκοψε ρυθμό, απλά δεν ρίσκαρε τόσο, πλέον (ο Rehhagel έβαλε τον Νίνη αντί του Γκέκα), είχε άλλες τέσσερις καλές στιγμές (75', 77' Καραγκούνης, 81' Κυργιάκος, 90'+3 Τζιόλης) και τελικά έφτασε στη μεγάλη νίκη. Οι Αφρικανοί δεν μπόρεσαν να απειλήσουν, έχοντας ένα καλό σουτ του Ayegbeni (76').

Hellas scored their first goals and secured their first victory in a FIFA World Cup™, coming from behind to beat yesterday Nigeria 2-1 in their second Group B match in Mangaung/Bloemfontein.
It all looked like being so different for the Super Eagles, who opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Uche, but a straight red card for Kaita just after the half-hour swung the balance in the favour of the Europeans, who duly secured their first-ever victory in a FIFA World Cup™ match thanks to goals from Salpingidis in 44' and Torosidis in 71'. The result left Hellas third in Group B, level on points with second-placed Korea Republic. Nigeria remain pointless and will now have to beat the South Koreans in their final first-phase outing to have any chance of advancing.
Uche's goal was the first in the tournament to come direct from a free-kick, though his 35-yard effort from the left flank was intended centre. Hellas goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas was distracted by the run of Odemwingie, though, and let the ball go past him untouched. The game changed in the 33rd minute, though, with Kaita's sending-off for kicking out at Torosidis after the ball had run out on the sideline. Sensing the opportunity, Hellas coach Otto Rehhagel brought on Samaras to increase their attacking options. The Europeans duly began to dominate the proceedings and split open the Nigeria defence soon after, but goalkeeper Enyeama, who impressed in their 1-0 loss to Argentina, denied an unmarked Salpingidis from ten yards.
Six minutes later, Enyeama was beaten, but midfielder Haruna saved Samaras's flicked, close-range shot from crossing the line. However, Haruna was not so fortunate in the 44th minute as Katsouranis laid the ball off to Salpingidis, whose blast from 20 yards deflected off the young A.S. Monaco midfielder and into the back of the net.
Six minutes later, Enyeama was beaten, but midfielder Haruna saved Samaras's flicked, close-range shot from crossing the line. However, Haruna was not so fortunate in the 44th minute as Katsouranis laid the ball off to Salpingidis, whose blast from 20 yards deflected off the young A.S. Monaco midfielder and into the back of the net.
